Insurance for Study Abroad

Insurance is required

You are required to maintain adequate health insurance coverage at all times while abroad. In order to meet the CSU requirements for health insurance on an SDSU study abroad program, you must purchase the appropriate insurance for your program type. Domestic or alternate insurance plans will not be accepted for participation in SDSU-sponsored programs.

Find your program type below to learn about the insurance required for your program:

  • sdsu logoSDSU Exchange Program
    Students are automatically enrolled in the CSU required insurance.
     
  • csu logoCSU International Programs
    Purchase the necessary insurance as outlined in your CSU-IP acceptance packet.

  • isep logoAll ISEP Programs (Exchange and Direct)
    Purchase the required ISEP insurance (further details provided upon acceptance). You will also be automatically enrolled in the CSU required insurance plan.

  • Independent Programs
    You will be automatically enrolled in a comprehensive CSU required insurance plan. If an alternate comprehensive study abroad insurance plan is included in your program fee, you may be enrolled in the supplementary CSU required plan as an alternative.
  • CES Faculty-Led Programs
    Students are automatically enrolled in the CSU required insurance.
  • Insurance for travel outside of school-sponsored program
    Students who need travel insurance coverage before or beyond the date of their school-sponsored program dates must independently research worldwide travel insurance options and choose the best fit depending on their personal travel & activity plans.
