From late night snacks to hitting up the Peabody's cart in the library, SDSU students know that hunger can be a distraction in and out of the classroom.

It’s the same for students of all ages — including the nearly 230,000 school children living in low-income households that qualify for free or reduced lunches at San Diego elementary, middle and high schools. Many of these children come from “food insecure” households, where there is little or no food available at home and families may not know where they will find their next meal.

Aztecs can help those that face food insecurity by donating to the annual Aztecs Rock Hunger food drive that benefits the Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank and takes place Oct. 3 – 27. Part of the larger Colleges Rock Hunger food drive, SDSU competes against other area universities and colleges to collect the most donations based on student population. SDSU has won the competition each year since its inception in 2009.

Help SDSU reach this year's goal!

This year’s goal is to raise 150,000 pounds of food through monetary and food donations. Students can donate by:

  • Donating non-perishable food at any red bin located on campus
  • Visiting the SDSU Virtual Pantry, where every dollar donated translates into 6 pounds of food which provides 5 meals for hungry San Diegans
  • Donating funds when making purchases at Aztec Markets or SDSU Dining Services locations
