Aztecs Paint the Town Red

Homecoming 2012 features a variety of events for students and alumni.

October is right around the corner and with it, Homecoming 2012. This year’s theme is “Aztec Nation: Paint the Town Red."

During Homecoming Week, Oct. 7 – 13, Aztecs will celebrate the red and black with several events, including:

  • Women’s volleyball at 1 p.m., Oct. 7, in Peterson Gym: Support the team against University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and enter the T-shirt giveaway.
  • Aztec Nation Talent Show at 7 p.m., Oct. 8, in front of Viejas Arena: Watch Homecoming 2012 commercials and eat free popcorn followed by your fellow Aztecs showing off their skills.
  • Aztec Field Day at 5 p.m., Oct. 9, on the ENS Field adjacent to Music: Put your inner Aztec warrior to the test with this inflated obstacle course and activities following the student team competition.
  • SDSU Gives Back at various times on Oct. 10, including:
    • Aztecs Rock Hunger food drive from 9 a.m. – noon and 2 – 4 p.m. in Aztec Mesa 108: donate non-perishable food items in red bins across campus to support the Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank.
    • Banner decorating noon – 2 p.m., South Campanile Walkway: show your Aztec spirit and decorate a banner for display at the Homecoming Pep Rally.
    • Blood drive from 9 a.m. – 5:30 p.m., South Campanile Walkway: donate blood to the San Diego Blood Bank.
    • Homecoming Pep Rally at noon, Oct. 11, Campanile Walkway and Hepner Hall: meet this year’s honorary homecoming chair, The Show, enjoy a live DJ and win great prizes.
    • War Memorial Ceremony at 9:30 a.m., Oct. 12, War Memorial adjacent to Aztec Green: SDSU’s fallen Aztecs will be remembered at this annual ceremony organized by the SDSU Alumni Association.
    • Madness on the Mesa at 9 p.m., Oct. 12, Viejas Arena: following the 7 p.m. men’s soccer game on the SDSU Sports Deck, Aztecs will meet the men’s and women’s basketball teams in this late-night event featuring music, skills competitions, student contests and giveaways.
    • Homecoming Tailgate at 2:30 p.m., Oct. 13, Qualcomm Stadium parking lot F1: Aztecs of all ages can enjoy food, drinks and games at this tailgate presented by SDSU Athletics and the SDSU Alumni Association.
    • Homecoming Game at 4 p.m., Oct. 13, Qualcomm Stadium: watch the Aztecs take on Colorado State University and find out this year’s homecoming court at halftime.
