Mariachi Ensemble Salutes SDSU Staff

The newly formed SDSU Mariachi Ensemble will be playing their first public performance on November 16 at the 39th Annual SDSU Staff Awards Celebration. The celebration honors staff and recognizes their years of service to the university.

The mariachi ensemble is a collaboration between the SDSU School of Music and Dance, SDSU’s Compact for Success, and a Presidential Leadership Fund grant from the Campanile Foundation. It will provide continued studies for student mariachi musicians and open the genre to novice players.

The ensemlbe is expected to help SDSU to further embrace the richness of our region’s diversity, creative endeavors and changing demographics.

“The Mariachi Ensemble is another step in our vision to provide culturally rich program offerings, and opportunities to engage and collaborate with other programs at SDSU,” said Donna Conaty, director of the SDSU School of Music and Dance.
