Student-Athlete Academic Tutor (Virtual for Fall 2021)

Description: Student-Athlete Academic Support Services hires qualified tutors to meet with student-athletes in a virtual setting and assist them in a wide variety of subject areas. Tutors must be able to effectively support student-athletes via a virtual platform. Tutors are expected to help student-athletes understand assignments, work through problems, and improve their study skills. Tutoring is not a replacement for classroom instruction; rather, it serves as a supplement that will help student-athletes succeed in their coursework.

This position is part time and is expected to remain virtual for the duration of the fall 2021 semester. Tutors can expect to work between 5-20 hours per week, depending on availability and tutoring demand.

Qualifications:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong knowledge base in one or more specific subject areas
  • B or better in the class(es) for which the student-athlete is being tutored, or a demonstrated proficiency in the course material
  • Personable, understanding, and patient
  • Ability to work with diverse populations of learners at various skill levels
  • Understanding of and commitment to academic integrity
  • Flexible schedule and able to work evenings
  • Previous teaching or tutoring experience (preferred)
  • At least 30 college units earned (preferred)

Dockmaster

Description: Under the direction of the Instructional Supervisor, the Dockmaster is responsible for providing a safe and enjoyable rental experience for MBAC customers. Dockmasters assist with the rental of sailboats, kayaks, stand up paddleboards, and rowing equipment. When not assisting customers, Dockmasters complete safety inspections and preventative maintenance projects and ensure that MBAC yard/storage areas are presentable and obstruction free.

Qualifications:

Primary Functions

  • Provide support and outstanding experiences to MBAC rental customers
  • Prepare customers for a safe experience by providing thorough introductions to equipment and safety requirements
  • Maintain safety of the MBAC rental program by performing equipment inspections and completing preventative maintenance projects
  • Monitor changing weather and water traffic conditions and advise renters of situations that can affect their experience
  • Accurately document and organize rental related paperwork
  • Responsible for opening and closing the MBAC boat yard and equipment storage areas
  • Maintain strong communication with MBAC Office Assistants and Instructional Staff
  • Other duties as assigned

Customer Service and Collaboration

  • Provides outstanding customer service to all MBAC customers and guests
  • Establishes and maintains working relationships with various A.S. and University departments

Safety

  • Ensures all operations are conducted with safety of staff and customers as the first priority in accordance with the Injury and Illness Prevention Plan and other safety policies
  • Adheres to Associated Students’ Code of Safe Practices
  • Reports accidents to supervisor and reviews changes required to avoid reoccurrence
  • Ensures proper documentation is completed for each accident (employee and/or non-employee) and forwards to supervisor
  • Reports maintenance problems and/or broken and unsafe equipment to the appropriate party immediately

Minimum & Preferred Requirements

Education:

  • High School Diploma

Experience:

  • Working knowledge of watersports equipment care and rigging
  • One year of customer service experience

License & Certification Requirements:

  • Red Cross Waterfront Lifeguarding (may be obtained after hire date through MBAC)
  • US Powerboating Safe Powerboat Handling (may be obtained after hire date through MBAC)
  • FBI, DOJ, and LiveScan fingerprint clearance
  • Current valid Driver’s License
