Mission Bay Aquatic Center Gets LEED Certified

Platinum certification is the highest level sustainable building certification available, and the first of its kind for an existing project in the city of San Diego or in the California State University system.
High-Level Certification
Several strategies were implemented to obtain the high-level certification, including:

- Installing an array of solar panels
- Harvesting rain water
- Reducing energy use throughout the building
- Encouraging staff to use alternate transportation
- Minimizing trash diversion
- Using environmentally preferred office and cleaning products
The U.S. Green Building Council student chapters at SDSU and UC San Diego, and Mission Bay Aquatic Center staff members implemented the sustainable strategies for nearly a year and a half before applying for certification with the U.S. Green Building Council.
