SDSU student Monica Algya, co-director of recruitment for Aztec Dance Marathon, was invited to attend The Ellen Show in January. Her presence led to Ellen DeGeneres donating $3,300 to Aztec Dance Marathon, a fundraising event to be held Feb. 23-24 in support of patients at Rady Children’s Hospital.
Adela de la Torre, appointed president of SDSU and set to take the helm in June, is committed to serving and supporting the University's brilliant and diverse population of students. SDSU’s Adaptive Fitness Clinic has given community members a low-cost alternative to high-quality rehabilitation while providing students hands-on, real world experience working with patients through a kinesiology course.
SDSU’s Military Ally program, now open to civilian students, seeks to be a catalyst for positive change in the San Diego region by improving connections between military-affiliates and civilians. The next session will be held Feb. 23 and is open to anyone, no matter your military affiliation.
Why it’s important: By connecting civilians and military personnel in more casual, social settings, the program aims to help both groups to see the other more clearly and with less bias.

March 5 is the application deadline for the Leadership in Action Internship. Leadership Education for Asian Pacifics, Inc. hosts the program at multiple Asian Pacific Islander (API)-serving nonprofit organizations in Southern California leadership development and practical workforce training in the nonprofit sector. The program will be held June 18 through Aug. 10 and interns receive a stipend of $3,520.
