Special education credential graduate student Pepe Nevarez got the chance to immerse himself in another culture while studying abroad in Avila, Spain – but he got even more out of it than that. While abroad Nevarez took the opportunity to volunteer with people with disabilities, an experience that will benefit him as he pursues his career.

On Friday night, experience Boardwalk on the Mesa in Hepner Hall. Then dance the night away at Welcome Back Madness on Saturday night in the Courtyard at the Conrad Prepys Aztec Student Union. South Campus Plaza residence halls have opened! More than 600 students moved in over the weekend to brand new residences. The retail spaces of South Campus Plaza, including Trader Joe’s, Eureka!, Which Wich sandwich, a Verizon GoWireless store, Broken Yolk Café and Epic Wings N Things will be opening soon. The fair will feature tables hosted by SDSU entities that offer study abroad programs, independent study abroad providers and international-focused student organizations. Wondering what comes next upon returning from studying abroad? Find out at the annual Lessons From Abroad (LFA) conference, February 12 at Montezuma Hall. LFA is a re-entry conference for study abroad returnees, allowing them to reflect on their experiences, learn how to leverage what they’ve learned, connect with other study abroad alumni and network with professionals from international organizations. This could help you embark on a new career or academic path.
Did you know you can apply for your passport without leaving the SDSU campus? If you’re planning to study abroad or travel internationally during Spring Break or summer, now is the perfect time to visit the SDSU Passport Office. The facility is located at the International Student Center on the west side of campus and is open Tuesday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. No appointment is necessary. SDSU Passport Office.
Don’t think you can study abroad and still make ends meet? It’s actually more affordable than you might imagine. Spring semester study abroad financing and scholarship meetings at the International Student Center start in February. As the semester begins, so does the spring sports season. The women’s tennis team opens its home slate on January 21 with matches against UC Riverside and UC San Diego at the Aztec Tennis Center, while the men’s tennis team opens against Mississippi State on January 22. Meanwhile, the softball team hosts the Campbell/Cartier Classic from February 16-19 at the SDSU Softball Stadium. The baseball team hosts its home-opener against Pacific on February 17 at Tony Gwynn Stadium. If you need one more unit to graduate, One-Unit Weekend courses through SDSU’s College of Extended Studies can help. One-Unit Weekend courses allow SDSU undergraduate students to earn extra units for graduation while also learning about the latest hot topics in areas such as public administration and political science. Each course is $221 and meets two or three times for a total of 15 classroom hours. Learn more about one unit weekend courses.
