Communications and Marketing Internship

Description: Olivewood Gardens & Learning Center, a garden and nutrition education center, is seeking an energetic, well-organized and growth-minded individual as an unpaid communications and marketing intern. Will work with student on available class credit opportunities. Candidates should have taken related coursework in public relations, communications or marketing.

Position: This virtual position will assist Olivewood staff with media and public relations and support the marketing of Olivewood Gardens & Learning Center programs and events. This position is an essential player in researching and reaching out to key audiences.

Applicants should have some experience with creating marketing and communications projects and have an interest in nonprofit operations. Candidates must be innovative critical thinkers with excellent oral and written communication skills, highly developed organizational skills and a demonstrated ability to manage projects. In addition, candidates must be hard-working and self-motivated and demonstrate a deep commitment and vibrant appreciation for the life lessons learned around the table and in the garden. The ideal candidate is eager to learn and have fun!

STEM Instructor
Elementary Institute of Science

Wage: $16.60/hour

Description: Join a team of talented science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) instructors at EIS who are passionate about providing high-quality STEM experiences for all students. Together we are developing and inspiring the next generation of San Diego’s STEM-literate community. All classes are designed to provide the students with scientific information and its direct application to their lives and well-being. Students explore topics such as biology, chemistry, environmental science, marine biology, health, sustainability, computer science, photography, robotics, and engineering. EIS encourages student involvement, innovation and creativity through trial-and-error problem-solving and teamwork.

Position: Classes are taught in our 15,000-square-foot STEM learning center and feature a 12:1 student-to-instructor ratio. Examples of hands-on learning activities include programming robots, testing water quality, dissecting fish, designing and building roller coasters, designing and testing parachutes, growing plants, learning to code and creating websites. Upon passing a background check, instructors earn $16.60 per hour.

Employer Profile: The Elementary Institute of Science is a nonprofit, student-centered organization that provides after-school, weekend and school break "learning laboratory" classes for students' ages 7 to 13. EIS is located in Southeast San Diego about 20 minutes from UCSD and SDSU and across the street from the Euclid Trolley station.

Marketing and Communications Assistant

Description: Coordinate in-person and virtual events including video/film organization, messaging, promotion and social media. Assist with community management on social media channels and groups. Assist with organizing and optimizing the SDSU YouTube video playlist including titling, descriptions, linking and tagging. Support market research, environmental scans and competitive profiling. Other tasks as assigned.

Position: Provide digital advertising campaign support including content creation (photo and videos), reporting and asset organization. Draft copy and identify visuals for various marketing materials, including website, social media, advertising and promotions. Review marketing materials, including website and print content, social channels and email communications. Project coordination includes facilitating digital assets among campus and outside partners with diligent communication. Assist with implementing marketing strategies for campaigns and special events on various channels.

Student Videographer/Photographer/Editor

Description: The Department of Strategic Communications and Public Affairs, in the Office of the President, is the voice of SDSU, and we are seeking a qualified student videographer/photographer to join our team! Responsible for executing all phases of video production, including storyboarding, shooting, editing and final output. Set up and operate cameras and lighting kits. Coordinates with the strategic communications team to facilitate shoots with campus partners. Capture video and photo imagery for distribution across multiple digital media platforms and print. Works independently or with other staff to capture video footage and photos. Other duties, as assigned. Podcast editing. Helping to organize and tag SDSU photo libraries. Captioning.

Position: Must be a registered San Diego State University student. Must have a minimum 3.0 grade-point average. Must be able to work a maximum of 10 hours each week during the academic year. Must present a resume and reel or link with sample work. Must have an understanding of video/photo concepts and skills. Must be proficient in Adobe Premiere, After Effects, Photoshop and Lightroom or similar applications. Must have expertise in the integration of video effects and audio. Must be familiar with digital video codecs. Ex: ProRes, .MOV, .MP4. Must be proficient in working with professional DSLR cameras and equipment. Must be proficient in operating video and audio equipment and understand basic project management techniques. Must be able to lift 50 pounds and help move photo/video gear around campus. Must help maintain video and photo equipment and keep inventory.
