2014 Commencement Guide

Three students walking in cap and gown

Whether you’re savoring every minute of college life until it’s time to walk the stage or you feel like that pivotal moment can’t come soon enough, there’s no doubt about it: it’s commencement season. With finals, job hunting, or even a graduate degree program in your near future, it’s understandable if graduation details have slipped off you’re to-do list. But the cap and gown – and everything that goes along with it – is important, so Class of 2014, here’s a handy graduation guide just for you.

Graduation Garb

San Diego State University sticks to tradition when it comes to commencement attire. All participants are required to wear full academic regalia, including the gown, mortarboard with tassel, and a red ribbon with an SDSU medallion. Your tassel color will depend on the college you’re graduating from. Students graduating with the Summa cum laude honors distinction will be awarded an honors cord to wear during the ceremony.

If you missed your chance to buy these items and other graduation souvenirs such as diploma frames and announcements at GradFest, just drop in to the SDSU Bookstore or visit ShopAztecs.com for everything you’ll need come show time.

Tickets, Please

Tickets are required for all participants and their guests. If you didn’t get yours at GradFest, you have until May 9 to claim them at the Viejas Arena Ticket Office. After that, there’s no guaranteeing you’ll get all the tickets you’re originally allotted. If there are still tickets left by May 12, the ticket office will distribute them on a first-come, first-served basis to SDSU students with valid RedIDs.
