Beginning Oct. 18, San Diego State University students will have the opportunity to make their own short films as part of Campus Movie Fest (CMF).
Each year, the Aztec Student Union Board, part of Associated Students, invites CMF to SDSU to allow students to express their creative sides. The CMF tour staff provides training, support and equipment—including laptops with Adobe Creative Cloud, Panasonic LUMIX HD cameras and Sennheiser sound gear. The program is completely free for any students wishing to participate. The official launch of the competition will take place from 12-5 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 18, in the Conrad Prebys Aztec Student Union courtyard.
At the end of the week, judges will rate the submissions, and the top 16 movies from SDSU will be screened at a red-carpet premiere at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 26 in the Conrad Prebys Aztec Student Union Theatre. Friends, family, and fans are all invited to join the student filmmakers at the premiere to celebrate the week’s accomplishments.
The top four films will be awarded the coveted Jury Award and the filmmakers will be invited to compete at the national level at the TERMINUS Conference + Festival in Atlanta. Jury Award winners will also receive a one-year subscription to Adobe Creative Cloud, the opportunity to apply for the CMF at Cannes Program and discounted passes to TERMINUS. Silver Tripod Awards will also be given in specific categories, including directing, editing, performance as well as others.
Students also have the opportunity to compete in the Elfenworks Social Justice category, which highlights injustice and aims to inspire change—with the national winner taking home $10,000. Students are asked to submit their work and return any equipment from 2-5 p.m. on Oct. 24 in the Park Bouelvard suite of the Conrad Prebys Aztec Student Union.
