1. Why did you choose to attend San Diego State University?

I chose to attend San Diego State University because it has one of the most highly ranked computer science programs in California.

2. What inspired you to declare your major?

I have always been extremely passionate about computer graphics. I picked up programming through game development at the age of 12, and I spent countless nights teaching myself the basics. When I got to college, computer science seemed like the obvious choice.

3. What is the best piece of advice you ever received?

The field of computer graphics is very impacted so I have spent a lot of time worrying about how I would "break into the industry." A great piece of advice I was given recently is not to worry about breaking in, but to focus on fostering relationships with people. Since then, I have landed an internship and made countless connections.

4. Which SDSU faculty or staff member has been the most influential throughout your SDSU journey?

Professor Steve Price has been quite influential to me. We both share a passion to cultivate the Game Development Club at SDSU. The way he does everything in his power to help his students succeed is really the embodiment of the Aztec community that I have been lucky enough to be a part of these last two years.

5. What does student success mean to you?

To me, student success is about scratching that itch for knowledge. My experience in college has not been a means to an end to receive a degree, but a platform to build a breadth of knowledge about my field and point me in the right direction so that I might dig deeper and become specialized in what I am passionate about. Success to me is digging deep into what you are passionate about and getting fulfillment through that.

6. What experience at SDSU has changed your life the most?

The ongoing experience of connecting with peer and professors who share the same passions has been life-changing. The willingness to help and desire to lift each other up is unprecedented.

7. What has been your proudest achievement while at SDSU?

My proudest achievement is landing an internship in the summer of my second year. Aside from the fact that it's generally a struggle to find an internship, it's extremely validating to have your hobby turn into your career.

8. Where do you see yourself in five years?

Five years from now, I hope to be finishing graduate school and working for an animation or game development studio as a graphics tools engineer.

9. What’s your favorite thing about SDSU?

My favorite thing about SDSU is the community. Personally, I enjoy working with other dedicated computer science students at the Aztec Game Lab, a game development club that gives students of all disciplines and skill levels a platform to learn about game development, create games and talk with other developers on campus.
