The San Diego State University Jewish Studies Department will host acclaimed Israeli jazz guitarist and oudist Amos Hoffman and pianist and composer Noam Lemish, members of an imaginative quartet that fuses Middle-Eastern sonorities with the sounds of jazz and classical music. The duo will join SDSU Jewish Studies artist-in-residence Yale Strom and members of his band, Hot Pstromi.

The concert will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 12, in Smith Recital Hall. The event is free and open to the public, and paid parking is available in lot P7 or P12.

Hoffman is internationally known as a pioneer of fusing the rhythms and melodies of the Middle East with modern jazz. After studying guitar privately, he attended the prestigious Rubin Academy of Music in Jerusalem. To date, Hoffman has recorded five solo albums and has contributed to albums for artists in Israel and worldwide. In 2013, Amos was awarded one of Israel’s most prestigious prizes—The Landau Prize for Arts and Sciences—for outstanding achievement in the field of jazz.

Lemish is an Israeli-American jazz pianist and composer currently based out of Toronto. He has appeared in numerous performances across the United States, Canada, Europe, Israel and in Bhutan, and has several recordings to his credit. His compositions include chamber, choral, piano, and numerous jazz works.
