Major (and minor): Communication major with a minor in television, film and new media
Campus affiliations: KCR College Radio, KPBS

1. Why did you choose SDSU?

I chose SDSU because I originally wanted to work in film, and SDSU has a great television and film program. When I toured the campus, I fell in love and knew I wanted to spend the next four years here.

2. What inspired you to declare your major?

I originally declared as a television and film major, but after joining KCR College Radio and being hired at KPBS my freshman year, things quickly changed. Rather than film, I wanted to work in news and sports.

3. What is the best piece of advice you ever received?

The best piece of advice I have ever received was during a radio conference in New York City. One of the guest speakers was Justin Craig, program director for ESPN Radio in New York. He said success is about “filling the void,” looking for what isn’t being done and doing it.

4. Which SDSU faculty or staff member has been the most influential throughout your SDSU journey?

KPBS News Editor Tom Fudge has been the most influential throughout my SDSU journey. Since starting at KPBS in 2013, he has taught me everything from writing for broadcast to producing and tracking stories.

5. What does student success mean to you?

To me, student success is preparing for a career after college. While in school, there are so many opportunities and resources, such as clubs and organizations that can translate to jobs and internships.

6. What experience at SDSU has changed your life the most?

The experience that has changed my life the most has been joining KCR College Radio, SDSU’s student-run radio station. Currently, I am the station’s general manager and have been for the last year. The experience helped me secure a part-time job at KPBS and internships at Fox Sports San Diego, NBC San Diego, The Mighty 1090, and others. KCR has also allowed me the opportunity to represent SDSU in New York City at the Intercollegiate Broadcast System awards.

7. What has been your proudest achievement while at SDSU?

My proudest achievement at SDSU was when KCR College Radio was named “Best College Station in the Nation” at the 2016 Intercollegiate Broadcasting System award ceremony. We worked diligently on our application, and to see all the work we put in pay off was really something special.

8. What’s your favorite thing about being an Aztec?

My favorite part about being an Aztec is the pride that comes along with our school. Whether it’s our nationally recognized football and basketball programs, or our nationally recognized radio station, Aztec pride is strong.
