Research Integrity/Regulatory Compliance

SDSU is committed to achieving the highest standards in its conduct of research. Through the University Research Council, standing committees implement federal, state and institutional policies associated with research compliance as well as research development and promotion. The Division of Research Affairs has oversight of regulatory assurances between the federal government and the University. These assurances are agreements that detail the responsibilities of those involved in the conduct of research to ensure the research is carried out in a manner consistent with accepted standards of ethical research practices. Programs that support research integrity and compliance include:

Research Integrity Policy
SDSU's policy on Integrity in Research and Scholarship (page 58-60) is approved by the Academic Senate as well as the Department of Health and Human Services' Office of Research Integrity (ORI).

Research Education and Ethics Training
SDSU conducts educational and outreach activities to facilitate discussion, awareness and value of practices that enhance research integrity and prevent research misconduct.

Human Research Protection Program (HRPP)
The HRPP includes education and compliance oversight to assist the research community and ensure the rights and welfare of participants in research are protected.

Animal Care and Use Program (ACUP)
The ACUP involves both the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) and the Office of Laboratory Animal Care (OLAC). The ACUP assists the institution and research community in complying with its federal assurance and institutional policies for the use of animals in research and teaching.

Biosafety Program
This program is a combined effort of the Institutional Biosafety Committee and SDSU's Environmental Health & Safety. This program ensures that research or teaching activities involving biolohazardous materials are conducted safely.

Conflict of Interest in Research
The Conflict of Interest Committee evaluates research when an investigator discloses a significant financial interest that may influence the conduct of the activity. The Committee determines what, if any, conditions or restrictions should be imposed on the investigator or research protocol in order to manage, reduce or eliminate such conflicts of interest.

Export Control Program
Export and Import Controls enables research by identifying and managing export risks and providing export licensing for research and other university activities.
