Tony C. Chung

Associate Vice President for Student Affairs

photo of Tony ChungTony Chung has more than 20 years of professional experience, with progressively responsible experience in business, technology, and Student Affairs.

Prior to his career in higher education, Mr. Chung was an entrepreneur and a professional in the field of business and technology, having worked as Director of IT, Vice President for Design and Development, and Chief Technology Officer for technology companies in the private sector. In his career, he has worked with clients ranging from Major League Baseball to Carnegie Hall, and holds several technology patents.

Currently, Mr. Chung oversees the strategic planning and operations of six departments in the Division of Student Affairs – Assessment & Research, Communications Services, Financial Aid and Scholarships, Resource Management, Technology Services, and Testing Services.

Prior to his appointment as Associate Vice President for Student Affairs, he served as Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs, and as the Director of Technology Services for Student Affairs. For four years, he also oversaw the technology operations for Enrollment Management in the Division of Academic Affairs, which included responsibilities over critical systems such as the SDSU WebPortal & SIMS/R. Prior to his affiliation with San Diego State University, Mr. Chung worked in the Division of Student Affairs at the University of California, Riverside.

Mr. Chung's professional affiliations include the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA), National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO), Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), and EDUCAUSE. Mr. Chung is also a member of SDSU’s Academic Resources and Planning Committee (ARP), Budget Review Action Team (BRAT), Campus fee Advisory Committee (CFAC), President’s Budget Advisory Committee (PBAC), and serves as co-chair of the Enterprise Technology Advisement Committee (ETAC).

Mr. Chung possesses a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the California State Polytechnic University (CalPoly), Pomona.
