What is Freshman Leadership Connection ?

Be a part of a fun fall semester, packed with activities that will allow you to interact with other new Aztecs, explore leadership topics, and learn more about involvement opportunities on campus!

The program brings together leadership development with an orientation into San Diego State University's leadership and community service opportunities. At the end of the program, you will have a basic understanding of leadership theory and you will begin to put your knowledge into practice on campus as you join into SDSU's over 350 student organizations and student government opportunities.

What will we do in FLC?

  • Participate in leadership workshops and assessments, including sessions on conflict, personality, vision, values, time management, goal setting, study skills and networking.
  • Engage in interactive activities and small group discussions designed to help you learn leadership concepts and make new friends.
  • Be paired with an upperclass student facilitator/mentor who is successfully involved with campus leadership programs.
  • Network with current student leaders, faculty and staff throughout the semester by participating in workshops, student organization mixers, and campus activities.
  • Listen to guest speakers and members of the SDSU administration and staff
  • Priority notification of applications being available for the Aztec CORE Leadership Retreat.
  • Earn a Freshman Leadership Connection Certificate of Completion.

Freshman Leadership Connection (FLC) is offered in fall semester only. In the Fall, Freshman Leadership Connection will be offered on Tuesdays from 9:00am-9:50am. It is a 1 unit course.

"Thanks to the Freshman Leadership Connection (FLC) course, I met other first-year students who were also aspiring to be leaders on campus. In FLC, we connected with current student leaders who shared their experiences and visions for the future. Hearing their stories inspired me to start my journey as a college student leader and gave me a sense of direction. In addition, the class gave me the resources to develop my leadership skills and succeed as a first semester college student, mostly though workshops on personality types, conflict styles, and time management. The class gave me the space to make meaningful connections with students and faculty, who are all passionate about making a positive impact on campus. I would strongly recommend the class to anyone looking to get connected to the SDSU community."
