Eligibility for Summer Aid

If you are eligible, your summer aid may include a Pell GrantFederal Direct Student Loan, or Federal Work Study.

To be considered for financial aid to attend summer session, you must:

  • Have an award for the current academic year with remaining eligibility for Pell Grant and/or Federal Direct Student Loan
  • Have an award for the upcoming academic year from which you can access an advance of your Pell Grant and/or Federal Direct Student Loan if you don't have remaining eligibility
  • Complete the mandatory online summer counseling session that is available beginning in mid-February through AidLink
  • Be making satisfactory academic progress, after spring semester grades are posted
  • Be enrolled at least half time to receive a Federal Direct Loan:
    • 6 units for undergraduate or teaching credential student
    • 5 units for a classified graduate student

Extended studies / study abroad

Contact a financial aid counselor NOW if you plan to enroll only through the College of Extended Studies or if you plan to study abroad.

Important: Check your AidLink account now for documents you need to provide or other action you may need to take to complete your applications for the current academic year and for the upcoming academic year. In AidLink, be sure to check for missing documents and messages in both academic year records.

Mandatory summer counseling session

To find out if you may be eligible for summer financial aid (which includes student loans), you must complete an online summer counseling session and enroll at least half time.
