Financial Aid and Scholarships

Summer Aid

To be considered for any summer financial aid, you must:

  • file a FAFSA for the 2018-19 year and have been awarded
  • be a continuing student from the 2017-18 academic year, or a new student who will enroll at SDSU for the fall 2018 semester
  • be making Satisfactory Academic Progress, as defined by the Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships, as a result of your cumulative units and grades during the summer 2017, fall 2017, and spring 2018 semesters

Learn about:

Limited funding

Financial aid to attend summer classes is limited and may include estimated student loan(s).  To help you pay the total cost, you may need to borrow a student loan.

Extended studies / study abroad

Contact a financial aid counselor NOW if you plan to enroll only through the College of Extended Studies or if you plan to study abroad.

Summer information and counseling session

To find out if you may be eligible for summer financial aid (which includes student loans), you will receive an e-mail directing you to AidLink.

The summer counseling session is available through AidLink beginning in mid-February for students who want more information about the summer eligibility requirements.

To access summer information and counseling, log in to your AidLink account, select the "Summer 2018" pulldown, and follow the directions.

  • Beginning late-May, and after you enroll, the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships will review your eligibility and notify you of your summer financial aid award, if any.

Completing the summer counseling session informs you about the possibility of receiving financial aid to attend summer classes. It does not mean that you will be eligible to receive summer financial aid or, if awarded, that the aid will be enough to pay your total summer cost.

  • Mid-February:  Summer tuition and fee postponements are made available, if you are eligible
  • Late May-June: After you enroll, you will be notified if you will receive summer aid
  • Mid-July: If eligible, summer aid disbursements begin
  • Mid-August: All summer aid must be disbursed by last day of summer classes
