Receiving Your SDSU Scholarship Award

The Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships (OFAS) will notify you just prior to releasing the funds for disbursement for the academic year for which your scholarship is awarded.

Current academic year awards

If your scholarship award is for the current academic year, OFAS will authorize release of your funds once you submit your thank you letter online and meet any other requirements specified in your scholarship award letter that you access through your AidLink account.

Next academic year awards

If your scholarship award is for the next academic year, funds will not be released until you have submitted your thank you letter online and are enrolled in classes.

  • You must continue to meet the scholarship’s class level, grade point average (GPA), academic major, and any other requirements specified in the scholarship’s requirements or in your scholarship award letter. For example: If your awarded scholarship requires that you have a 3.00 GPA and by the new academic year, your GPA is now 2.8, you are no longer eligible for the scholarship. Changing your major could also affect your eligibility.

Student Account Services

Once OFAS verifies your eligibility to receive the scholarship funds, it will notify Student Account Services (SAS). The funds will be applied to any outstanding university charges you may have (tuition, fees, nonresident tuition, on-campus housing, etc.). SAS will notify you by email when they release your funds to pay university charges.  SAS will then release any balance to you via Direct Deposit.

Direct Deposit to your account

After SAS has applied your awarded funds to pay your university charges, it will release any remaining funds to you via Direct Deposit. Direct Deposit is the only way to receive these remaining funds. Sign up for Direct Deposit online. SAS will notify you by email when they deposit funds into your designated personal bank account via Direct Deposit.

Holds

Routinely check your status through AidLink so that you do not experience any delays in receiving your scholarship funds. Holds can be placed for several reasons. Some of the most common holds are due to changes in your eligibility. For example:

If your scholarship has been put on hold, you may need to submit your thank you letter(s) or simply enroll in more units. In your AidLink account, check Your Scholarship Summary and the sections for Messages and Holds. Contact an OFAS scholarship counselor at (619) 594-6323 for help.
