Super Sunday

San Diego State University 2011-2012 “Super Sunday” Activities

SDSU Super Sunday Presentations By President Elliot Hirshman

Super Saturday Aztec for a Day College Fair

There are standard college fairs with a few booths and representatives on site, and then there’s California State University Super Saturday. CSU Super Saturday partners the university with local community organizations and churches across California to get grade school, middle school, and high school students excited about the potential of going to college.

The California State University (CSU) is committed to doing everything possible to ensure that all students have access to a quality, affordable education. Super Sunday is one of many programs and events encompassed by the CSU African American Initiative. This unique initiative was formed in 2005 through a partnership with local leaders of church, civic and business organizations and the California State University working together to promote a college-going culture among African American students.

On two Sundays each year, CSU leaders including the chancellor, trustees, presidents and others speak at various churches across the state to share with students, parents and community mentors information about preparing for college, applying to the CSU's 23 campuses, obtaining financial aid and much more. Following Super Sunday services, CSU outreach staff and church education counselors provide information about college applications and financial aid. Students are also introduced to CSU Mentor, the online application website for prospective students, as well as the "How to Get to College" poster, which provides middle and high school students and their parents with step-by-step information on required classes for admission, the importance of good grades and more.

Super Sunday and Super Saturday events are some of the many ways our university connects to the diverse communities around San Diego and throughout California. Building solid relationships with students, familes, and friends helps make our campus a rewarding place for everyone to learn.
