The Center for Visual Literacies at SDSU focuses on two related goals: (1) improving student learning through visually integrated teaching practices, and (2) exploring the potential of visuals as data and for data analysis in qualitative inquiry. The need for applying methodologies that deal with non-text/non-verbal data is high, particularly at a time when cultural mediation is dominated by image-based communication and in an area like San Diego with a high population of English learners.
