Unique Focus or Emphasis

Gen Global students are immersed in classrooms that reflect the diversity of San Diego County and will focus on preparing diverse learners for a 21st Century world. Emphasis will be placed on connecting teaching and learning to the urban communities in which we work and on ensuring our future students are able to thrive in an increasingly globalized world. This block seeks to prepare teachers to work in urban schools, where challenges often transcend the walls of a classroom. Through an inquiry process, credential students will analyze these challenges and seek opportunities for linking schools to their communities and to the larger global context.

Location of Courses

Courses are currently being taught exclusively at SDSU. Each year, location of courses could change.

Locations of Student Teaching

Global Generation student teachers are placed in the Sweetwater Union HS District and in City Heights.   Occasionally, a student teacher may be placed in a school outside of these areas because of special circumstances or because of subject-specific needs. Most student teachers will spend one semester at a middle school and one semester at a high school.

Approx. schedule of student teaching

First semester, Gen Global student teachers spend approximately 15 hours a week at their assigned school site, and must be available for student teaching between the hours of 7:30 AM and 3:30 PM. SDSU course work is scheduled from 4:00 PM - 6:50 PM Mondays through Thursdays each week of the SDSU semesters. During the second semester, student teachers spend approximately 25 hours a week at their assigned school site between the hours of 7:30 AM and 3:30 PM.
