Welcome Message from Dr. Virginia Loh-Hagan
Dear Liberal Studies Students,
Welcome!!! I'm proud to be directing the Liberal Studies program at SDSU. And I'm thrilled to be working with you as you pursue your educational goals and dreams. As a member of the Liberal Studies family, you have a great variety of support and resources to assist you. All you need to do is reach out. You can contact your Liberal Studies Academic Advisor (EBA 259) to receive individualized and hands-on guidance with your schedule and degree programs. You can go to the College of Education's Office of Student Services (EBA 259) to charge up, relax, print, learn about scholarships, COE programs. etc. You can also come visit me in EBA 255! In addition, you have a plethora of campus-wide support services.
I may be biased, but I think the Liberal Studies program is the best program on campus! You will take courses from many content areas, gaining a depth of understanding of various disciplines and as such, you will be more than prepared to be a K-8 public school teacher. In addition, you will have many career options and pathways from which to choose. You will also acquire a global mindset by fulfilling your international experience requirement. Furthermore, you will have many opportunities to participate in professional service activities, clubs, and organizations. Liberal Studies strives to create leaders and innovators.
In a world in which an informed citizenry is more important than ever, the Liberal Studies program develops professionals who feel the awesome responsibility and urgency to serve, the type of serving that makes a positive and meaningful difference in the lives of children. Liberal Studies graduates are among the most powerful change agents in our society — they impact our local communities and they affect future generations.
To quote Michelle Obama: "Don't be afraid. Be focused. Be determined. Be hopeful. Be empowered. Empower yourselves with a good education, then get out there and use that education to build a country worthy of your boundless promise. Lead by example, with hope. Never fear."
You are an Aztec for Life, and a Liberal Studies learner for even longer! :) Live long and prosper, my friends! You have so much fun ahead of you. Please tweet your Liberal Studies adventures and thoughts to #SDSULibSt.
—Educate yourself, Educate others.
Cheers,
Dr. Loh-Hagan
