Organizational and Systems Leadership
This course focuses on various management issues relative to school leadership, including an understanding of legal and financial principles important to the functions of school and district leaders along with policies and practices for technology integration in the prek-12 classroom, school and/or district.
Seminar in Personalized Learning and Leading through Technology
This course has a focus on curriculum leadership and management in elementary, middle, and secondary schools and the use of research in curriculum development and implementation. Additionally, in this course students will learn to critically analyze technology and the environment in which it promotes learning; define the theoretical and practical implications in the use of the six facets of understanding for curriculum design, assessment, and teaching with a global perspective; evaluate a continuum of methods for appropriately assessing the degree of student understanding and design curriculum for a target group; integrate both theoretical and empirical research; examine global issues from different perspectives developing an informed understanding of justice, human rights and responsibilities; learn from readings and discussion about the relationship between theoretical and empirical research and technology; and develop a personal viewpoint, wherever possible, in relation to the global themes and issues studied. Students will also explore how gamification of the learning process can leverage both technology and psychology to engage learners as they acquire deep understanding of course content.
School Improvement and Leadership
This course has a focus on using data to focus instructional improvement at the elementary, middle, and secondary levels. Students will lead a team of educators in the develop an improvement plan for a targeted group of students. Students will critically analyze existing technologies and develop new ones as intervention tools.
Methods of Inquiry
This is the first of a 3-course research sequence. This course provides an overview of educational research, focusing on understanding research and using research as an educational practitioner. Students are introduced to various quantitative and qualitative research methodologies.
This course introduces concepts, attributes, and characteristics of leadership associated with the challenging contexts of various educational environments. Students are introduced to the importance of vision and the process for developing, sustaining and communicating that vision to achieve higher student achievement by actively and meaningfully including stakeholders in a face to face or blended world.
Seminar in Pre K-12 Educational Administration: Informational Technology Architecture
This course will examine the complexities of educational change, the application of various models of organizational change, and specific leadership skills and strategies necessary for successful change in a 21st century learning environment. Teachers and teacher leaders will develop action plans for integrated technology change plans in their own work settings. The overarching theme will be taking advantage of today’s technology challenges to create opportunities for and to implement effective change.
Introduction to Master’s Project Seminar
ED795A and ED795B constitute a two-part course sequence in which the student completes an intensive study of a selected topic related to the administration of educational programs or a curriculum project and evaluation. In ED795A, the student formulates a plan for carrying out the project. The objective of this course is to explore an area of identified need using planning tools within the context of research and scholarly work. This work is driven by the design, delivery, and evaluation of technology for your district, school, grade level, or department in a face to face, online or blended environment.
Professional Learning and Growth Leadership
School leaders use professional development as a process to enhance classroom practice and improve student learning and overall school success. This course provides school leaders with preparation in skills for providing purpose and direction for individuals and groups, shaping school culture and value, facilitating the development of shared strategic vision for the school, formulating goals and planning change efforts with staff, and setting priorities for one's school in the context of community and district priorities for student and staff needs. This course affords the opportunity to apply what you have learned in your coursework to your own school or district. The objective of this course is to explore an area of identified need using data and planning tools within the context of research and scholarly work. This work is driven by the design, delivery, and evaluation of professional development for your district, school, grade level, or department in a face-to-face, online, or blended environment.
Master’s Project Seminar
During ED795B, the student implements the project developed in ED795A and reports the results. The objective of this course is to explore an area of identified need using planning tools within the context of research and scholarly work. This work is driven by the design, delivery, and evaluation of technology for your district, school, grade level, or department in a face to face, online or blended environment.
Seminar for Pre K-12 Ed Admin: Advanced Topics in Educational Leadership in Learning Management Systems
For online and blended instructional programs, the learning management system (LMS) is the core technology used for teaching and learning. This course challenges teachers and teacher leaders to investigate and synthesis the attributes of a LMS and guides them through a process for selection as well as implementation of an LMS at a school site or district. Students will analyze the technical and educational aspects of selecting, implementing, and sustaining a LMS for schools, districts and communities.
This course delves into the complex dynamics of communicating across all levels of the organization, with all stakeholders, encouraging courageous conversations about student needs and building organizational capacity to meet these needs in a 21st century learning environment.
