American Sign Language Classes Back at SDSU

American Sign Language (ASL) classes will be reintroduced at San Diego State University this fall in response to lively student interest. Offered by the Department of Dual Language and English Learner Education, the classes will meet the foreign language requirements for SDSU undergraduates. SDSU will offer ASL Level 1 (DLE 101) and Level 2 (DLE 102) in the fall and will offer Level 3 (DLE 201) in spring 2017. These courses were offered previously in the College of Health and Human Services.

“American Sign Language courses are coming back due to demand from students who would like to begin or continue their study of ASL for reasons of personal knowledge, professional learning and/or to help with the clients they will deal with in their future careers,” said Karen Cadiero-Kaplan, a professor in the College of Education.
