Director of the Chinese and American
Educational Leadership Symposium

Cheryl James-Ward is a full time professor in the Department of Educational Leadership at San Diego State University (SDSU) one of the top educational leadership programs in the US (U.S. News and World Reports, Edition of Best Graduate Schools, 2013). She is Director of the SDSU Chinese and American Educational Leadership Symposium. Cheryl serves in the College of Education as the Chinese liaison and visits China frequently to develop and cultivate partnerships. She co-coordinates the master’s and administrative credential program in the Department of Educational Leadership where she teachers both master’s and doctorate level courses.

Cheryl James-Ward consults with schools and school districts throughout California and China. Her focus is on leadership development and preparing schools for the opportunities of a global world. She has published numerous articles in various journals including the International Journal of Mentoring and Coaching in Education, the Educational Administration Quarterly, the NCPEA Education Leadership Review, the UCEA Review, ASCD Principal Leadership, and Voices in the Middle. Her latest coauthored book is Using Data to Focus Instructional Improvement. Cheryl’s other educational experiences include being a junior high math teacher, Math and Science Director for the Long Beach State University Upward Bound Program, vice principal, principal and director of schools for the Long Beach Unified School District, third largest district in the state of California.
