San Diego State University

Department of Child & Family Development

Prospective Students

Advising is available to admitted students who have accepted the offer to attend San Diego State University. Direct all questions or clarification of General Education (G.E.) requirements to the Undergraduate Academic Advising Center located in the Student Services Building, room 1551 (594-6668). New students may begin using the Academic Advising Center after New Student Orientation. For freshman, this is the first business day after the last freshman orientation. For transfer students, this is also the first business day after the last transfer orientation.

Direct all questions about the Child Development major to our Undergraduate Advisor, Professor Pamela Gardner. She is located in the Office of Student Services, 2nd Floor of the Education & Business Administration Building (EBA 259) and sees students on a walk-in basis. Her office hours are posted on her voice mail (619 594-7035), on her office door, and also on the Office of Student Services web page. She can also be reached via email, pgardner@mail.sdsu.edu. Pamela Gardner will begin seeing new students after the last day of orientations.

We encourage prospective students and their families to visit SDSU and participate in a campus tour. Information on the tours is available on the SDSU website or by calling the Prospective Student Center at 619 594-6336. Make sure to visit the campus bookstore and pick up a copy of the SDSU catalog. Important information regarding the Child and Family Development Department is included in the catalog. Once admitted, we also highly recommend that all new students attend a one-day orientation offered during the summer for freshmen and during the summer and winter for transfer students. These orientations include an advising session which is helpful to our new students. Information on the orientations will be sent to students.
