How to Apply

  1. Cal State Apply University Application: Complete the University application at

    Are you having trouble with the Cal State Apply application?  If so email right away for assistance.

  2. Submit official transcript(s) and test scores: Take the GRE exam and request official transcript(s) to be sent to SDSU Graduate Admissions:

    Electronic Transcript Formats
    SDSU accepts electronic transcripts in PDF or EDI format.  

    Transcripts must be sent by the Institution
    When requesting an electronic transcript you can choose San Diego State University on the selection menu or have them sent to:  SDSU will not accept transcripts emailed from students.

    If you attended SDSU as an undergraduate student, then we do NOT require official transcripts from SDSU.  We have access to this information.

  3. Program Application: To access the program application, please click on the following link: You are allowed to partially complete your application and return to it as needed prior to final submission of your program application. The first page of the program application provides complete details on how to complete and submit your application. 

Items Requested in Program Application

Please gather the items below and have them ready to upload to the Program application:

  1. Resume/CV: Prepare a resume or curriculum vitae.  We expect that this will at least include your education, paid and volunteer work history, as well as your community activities.

  2. Letter of Recommendation: Submit recommendation letters from three individuals who you have interacted with professionally and would be able to write a letter of recommendation for you. Letters can be submitted in PDF or MS Word format.

  3. Statement of Purpose: This is your opportunity to supply the Admissions Committee with a verbal picture of yourself as a person.  Particularly helpful would be a discussion of your professional goals as they apply to your reasons for seeking admission to the Rehabilitation Counselor program.  Please type your personal statement, using double-spacing and at least 12 point font.
