Educational Leadership: Concentration in PK-12 School Leadership (Ed.D.)

How to Apply

  1. Cal State Apply University Application: Complete the University application at www.calstate.edu/apply

    Are you having trouble with the Cal State Apply application?  If so email rstewart@mail.sdsu.edu right away for assistance.


  2. GRE exam & request official transcript(s): Take the GRE exam and request official transcript(s) to be sent to SDSU Graduate Admissions:

    If you attended SDSU as an undergraduate student, then we do NOT require official transcripts from SDSU.  We have access to this information.

    Electronic Transcript Formats

    SDSU accepts electronic transcripts in PDF or EDI format.  

    Transcripts must be sent by the Institution
    When requesting an electronic transcript you can choose San Diego State University on the selection menu or have them sent to: TranscriptsForSDSU@sdsu.edu.  SDSU will not accept transcripts emailed from students.

Please note there are 2 different Foci for this program (Regular and Science and Math).  Each has slightly different admission requirements below:

Items Requested in Program Application--Regular focus

Please gather the items below and have them ready to upload.

  1. Credential: Hold a valid California Clear credential.

  2. Statement of Leadership Philosophy: Write a Statement of Leadership Philosophy, 1-2 pages, addressing your beliefs and values about leadership, curriculum and instruction, students, teachers, parents, and other stakeholders.

  3. Resume/CV: Prepare a resume or curriculum Vitae to your application, which will include your education and employment history as well as any academic honors, awards, scholarships, and publications.

  4. Letters of Recommendation: Contact two individuals who you have interacted with both academically and/or professionally and would be able to write a letter of recommendation for you.  Recommenders will submit their recommendations directly into the Online Program application.

  5. Statement of Nomination Or Support From Your Employer: Nomination/statement of support for the candidate's doctoral studies from employer or, in cases where this is not provided, an indication of the candidate's plan for meeting the demands of the program and professional responsibilities.

  6. Example of Professional and/or Academic Writing
 

Items Requested in Program Application -- Science and Math Focus*

Please gather the items below and have them ready to upload.

  1. Credential: Hold a valid California Clear credential.

  2.  Write a Statement of Science and Mathematics Leadership Philosophy: 1-2 pages, addressing your beliefs and values about leadership, curriculum and instruction, students, teachers, parents, and other stakeholders.  Please make your statement specific to science and mathematics education. 

  3. Resume/CV: Prepare a resume or curriculum Vitae to your application, which will include your education and employment history as well as any academic honors, awards, scholarships, and publications.

  4. Letters of Recommendation: Contact two individuals who you have interacted with both academically and/or professionally and would be able to write a letter of recommendation for you.  Recommenders will submit their recommendations directly into the Online Program application.

  5. Statement of Nomination Or Support From Your Employer: Nomination/statement of support for the candidate's doctoral studies from employer or, in cases where this is not provided, an indication of the candidate's plan for meeting the demands of the program and professional responsibilities.

  6. Example of Professional and/or Academic Writing: Provide a link to a 2-3 minute video addressing the following prompts 1) Describe your academic and/or professional background in science or math  2) Describe how you connect your background in science or math to your work in the education field 3) Share why you are interested in earning an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership with a Science and Mathematics Focus.  How to upload YouTube video here
 *Please note that the Focus will NOT appear on your official degree document at the end of the program.
