How to Apply

  1. Cal State Apply University Application: Complete the University application at

    Are you having trouble with the Cal State Apply application?  If so email right away for assistance.

  2. Submit official transcript(s) and test scores: Take the GRE exam and request official transcript(s) to be sent to SDSU Graduate Admissions:

    Electronic Transcript Formats
    SDSU accepts electronic transcripts in PDF or EDI format.  

    Transcripts must be sent by the Institution
    When requesting an electronic transcript you can choose San Diego State University on the selection menu or have them sent to:  SDSU will not accept transcripts emailed from students.

    If you attended SDSU as an undergraduate student, then we do NOT require official transcripts from SDSU.  We have access to this information.

  3. Program Application: The link to this program application will be available within the Cal State Apply application, but you can also access it with the Program Application button below: 

Items Requested in Program Application

Please gather the items below and have them ready to upload to the Program application:

  1. Resume/CV: Prepare a resume using these guidelines.
  2. Language Background:  Please complete this Language Background Form.
  3. Academic Writing Sample:  Please provide one example of your academic writing.  Research or literature review papers are preferred.  This requirement applies to all applicants.
  4. Letter of Recommendation: Contact three individuals who you have interacted with professionally and would be able to write a letter of recommendation for you. Recommenders will submit their letters directly into the Online Program application.
  5. Personal Statement: In a one page, double-spaced essay, please explain:
    • Why you wish to become a student in the Master of Science in Child Development.
    • Any experience that you have, which you believe makes you an especially qualified applicant for a graduate degree program in Child Development.
    • Your research interests and which faculty you may be interested in working with.
    • Your future career goals and how this degree will help you achieve them.

Priority Consideration given to those candidates that submit both applications (CSU Mentor and Program application)by February 15, 2018.
