Assembly and Processional
Valid ID Required
Due to stringent security measures, all students participating in commencement are required to present their SDSU RedID card or a valid, government-issued picture ID for admittance to Viejas Arena.
Students who do not bring valid ID to Viejas Arena will not be allowed to participate in commencement.
Viejas Arena Assembly
Please check the schedule of commencement ceremonies for the date and time.
- Assemble in Lot L, across from Parking Structure 4, north of the arena.
- Arrive at least 45 minutes before the processional start time, unless otherwise noted for your college. See Ceremonies by College.
At your assembly area, faculty marshals and student ushers will organize the processional lines. Candidates line up behind the signs designating their departments.
Commencement Card Forms
While waiting in line, fill out a card form. College representatives will use these cards to announce your name as you walk across the stage. Commencement photographers will send photo proofs to the address listed on your card. Please note that due to the large number of graduates, the College of Arts and Letters does not read individual names during its ceremony; therefore, individual photos will not be taken.
Ceremony
The processional is led by the grand marshal carrying the college banner and directed by faculty marshals.
It will enter the commencement site from various directions, providing a colorful view of candidates and faculty in their full academic regalia.
After arriving at your seat, please remain standing until the grand marshal signals you to sit.
Following closing remarks by the dean, the grand marshal will lead the recessional of graduates and dignitaries from the commencement site back to the assembly area.
